Local History Conference 

Student Presentations

Teams of students from the eleven participating high schools prepared short presentations for their peers on historic themes related to their towns and villages. 

What's it all about?

The day-long Local History Conference brings together history students, their advisers, and the social studies department chairs from high schools throughout

Rockland County. Participating high schools in 2014 are Albertus Magnus, Clarkstown North, Clarkstown South, Nanuet, North Rockland, Nyack, Pearl River, Ramapo, Spring Valley, Suffern, and Tappan Zee.

Speakers & Special Guests

This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Travis Jackson, highlighted Rockland County's unique place in American Civil Rights history with a talk on “Hillburn: A Story of Tragedy and Triumph.” Also in attendance were Rockland County Executive Ed Day, State Senator David Carlucci, District Attorney Tom Zugibe, County Clerk Paul Piperato, County Historian Craig Long, and HSRC President Clare Sheridan.
