The Friends of Harmony Hall/
Jacob Sloat House, Sloatsburg

Work with the international conservator Kenneth J. Linsner to research County Archives in Pomona for the original Sloat papers. This would be an excellent opportunity for a student to learn about primary sources versus online resources that may or may not be reliable. Inventories of the Jacob Sloat homestead Harmony Hall would provide important details on personal effects and documents with direct provenance to Jacob Sloat, an inventor, manufacturer, and philanthropist, as well as the builder of Harmony Hall (1848). Harmony Hall is listed to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Contact: Kenneth J. Linsner, (917) 596-5600

Work with Harrison Bush, the founder of the Friends of Harmony Hall/Jacob Sloat House and Sloatsburg's Village Historian, to organize his personal papers, documents, and historical writings related specifically to Harmony Hall from 2004 to the present. Mr. Bush, a direct descendant of Jacob Sloat, is a highly respected history teacher. As the founding president of the Harmony Hall preservation, he can provide a unique perspective on starting a nonprofit historic preservation project of importance.
